After 25 years of cooking in Calgary, 20 years as owner of Red Tree, and 16 years in this great neighbourhood, I regret to announce that as of August 03 2016 I have decided to close.
As we all know the recession has really reshaped many small businesses in Calgary. Costs are rising and revenues are stagnant. Business taxes, property taxes and volatile markets all eventually take their toll, regardless of how well you have prepared.
Red Tree has endured other recessionary periods, with the support of our loyal clients. I’m sure we could have survived this one too—but this time I had to evaluate where I was in my life and if I was willing to sacrifice time with my family and my husband to mount this fight.
In the end I have decided to move on, pursue my other interests and spend more time with the people closest to me.
Please know that I have taken care of all of my loyal staff, some who have been with me since the beginnings of this small shop. They have been integral in our growth and success over the years, and I consider them my family.
This is an emotional time for all of us. Over the next month we will be cleaning up, selling off and closing down. If you would like to say goodbye, we will be here or feel free to call us and leave a message. We will be sure to get back to you.
Again, I thank each and every one of you for being Red Tree supporters. I will miss being part of the great cooking community in Calgary, and being a part of this wonderful neighbourhood. Don’t forget to support your local businesses. They are the lifeblood of our great city.
Aaron, and Team Red Tree
